More Than You Can Bear

“…we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead…” – II Corinthians 1:8-9 NKJV

You may have heard it said that God will never give us more than we can bear. That is not true! It is better said that God will never give us something to do that we can accomplish apart from Him. Paul’s life at this moment in time was crushing and the situation God had placed him in, along with those who were with him, was a matter of life and death. It was “above strength” or in other words he needed some beyond human endurance to go through it. He needed Jesus!

Everything God allows us to go through is designed to teach us to depend on Him and not ourselves. When faced with that which is beyond us may we look to and fully place our trust in Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who Himself endured the Cross and now sits in victory over this world. While God does give us more than we can handle, He will always provide us with His Spirit who is the power and heavenly resource we need to not just get through, but to go through and come out with the sweet testimony of Jesus Christ and His faithfulness.

Let’s pray…

Lord Jesus, in my weakness You are strong! Thank you for being my help and my strength. I surrender and place my trust in You. Please give me Your Spirit that I may endure to the end! Amen.

  1. Not sure if my message made it to you. This is exactly what my soul has been needing. I’ve read this one at time you dropped it. Timely then. And so timely again. Thank you for the precious reminder. Colette
